Getting here
Deer Lake is the practical gateway for most visitors. Rocky Harbour is reached by Route 430, and the drive from Deer Lake Regional Airport is about 72 kilometres. There is no useful public-transit network for exploring the park, so most trips work best with a vehicle. See Deer Lake to Rocky Harbour for the airport and ferry drive. What to book first
- Your accommodation. July and August can tighten early because Rocky Harbour is a small town with limited inventory.
- Your rental vehicle. If you are flying into Deer Lake, do not assume a suitable car will be available on arrival.
- Western Brook Pond. If the boat tour is a must-do, reserve it before building the rest of that day.
- Special dinners. The town has a modest number of restaurants and many are seasonal.
When to come
Late June through early September is the easiest period for a first visit because more visitor services and seasonal attractions are operating. Keep one day flexible

- Confirm any operator booking and meeting time.
- Fill the vehicle and buy food before heading out.
